So I just finished reading John. I have thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! Though it seems whenever I sit down to read that the kids will come up and whinge and whine at me to do something or other. That has been driving me crazy.

Next? Who knows. I am still praying, but I suspect it will be another gospel. I feel I need to learn more about the Holy Spirit since I grew up in a Bretheren church (no, not those weird exclusives..) when practically no attention was given to the Holy Spirit for fear of turning into one of those frowned-upon charismatic types. So I will be heading to Acts soon, but I think I need to get more Gospel into me first. Surround myself with as much Jesus as I can.

Did I mention how much I am loving this??? I REALLY AM!

I figure it has been nearly a week since my last blog, so it must be time to write another. But I am all out of ideas for what to write. So this is going to be a little bit of this and that :-)

A few weeks ago while in the turbulent midst of my thyroid-caused-anxiety-stress-mess (I'm hoping to be at the tail end of it now...) I discovered (with the help of my wonderful counsellor) that I am at a crossroads. I know that seems pretty obvious - you don't have mid life crisis' or bouts of nervousness when things are peachy.. Anyway, part of this *crossroad* is related to my christian beliefs (should that be a capital C???) and how seriously I take it.

Sure - I love God. I try to be a good christian and do the right things. But oh my how I fail. Not that I do anything about it other then hide those discrepancies away and pretend they don't exist.

Yeh, I am sure you can see where this is going...

Eventually my brain said enough. I am back on the antiD's and seeing a lovely lady who also loves God!

Aforementioned lady has helped me see some pretty big flaws in my methods and is challenging me to change. One of them being my wanting to be a godly woman and yet I only seem to cling to Him during the really difficult times (those I'd-rather-forget-they-happened bouts of depression) and when things are fine and dandy, well - there's church on Sunday... that's surely enough?!

From this I am hoping to learn my lesson.. (I REALLY don't want to have to cover this ground again) I prayed for inspiration for where to open my Bible and woke in the middle of that night with a need to read the Gospel of John. That was a couple of weeks ago now and I've been very slowly plodding my way through it. I don't want to miss anything.

I've really been enjoying it! I'm already excited to see where I am supposed to read next. Initially I was expecting some lightening bolt moment of epiphany to come from reading the Bible (and then I'd be healed) but the more I read, the more I am realising that just the act of reading my Bible and being open to the Holy Spirit is enough.

I wont say that I'm out of the woods completely in regards to my anxiety, but I am a whole lot closer than I was. And I really don't want to go back to being that person anyway - I am learning to love change and the exciting journey God is taking me on!

In response to Swift Jan's blog about being skinny (by the way, I think you are beautiful just the way you are!) I wanted to add my own spin.

I am skinny.

I have always been skinny.

Rebecca is skinny.

Except I am starting to put on weight.

Who am I if I am not skinny anymore? That is always who I've been.. I am finding it incredibly difficult to reconcile *who I am* outside that mould.

Yes, I know that beauty is from the inside. I agree with all of that. Still, I don't know how to translate that back to me.

I guess it is just a huge dose of vanity...

I'd just like to add that I think it is sad that we can see others are beautiful, but we just don't believe it ourselves. It is easier to discredit our husbands and God's opinion of us, because the world says otherwise.

I think it is a daily and sometimes hourly CHOICE to believe we are beautiful.

Still, that doesn't help when I'm trying to squeeze into my jeans.

I often wonder how people really are when you ask them and they reply *fine* or *not too bad* or *good thanks*.

I often wonder how they really are. But I guess it isn't politically correct - or perhaps a bit awkward to answer *a little bit crappy actually* or *to be honest I'm feeling sad / angry / frustrated / etc*.

Sure, I appreciate that the checkout chick isn't interested in deep confessions from your soul, but why do we hide it from our friends and family?

I for one am a big culprit of this.

Is it being heroic? Making yourself the matyr? Are we afraid that we'll scare people off with our real self?

But is this pretense a good thing?

I think not. I wish people would ask me *how are you REALLY doing?* and expect and honest and raw answer. Sometimes it may be that I'm doing ok. Othertimes I may burst in to tears. But you know what? It's not that I want someone to fix the way I feel, but rather to feel safe and cared for enough to get these feelings and emotions out. Just to listen. Give a hug. Tell me it's going to be okay. That is all.

Handmade Living Book

Earlier this year I was presented with the opportunity to advertise Scurrette in something called Handmade Living. I had no idea what it was, but the thought of being printed in an actual book was pretty exciting! So I took the plunge so to speak, and paid the dollars and sent one of my items off to play the star.

It's just about time for the book to be released and I am quite excited to get my hands on my very own copy!

A long, ~~long~~ time ago, in a ~~galaxy far, far away....~~ lovely church there was:

~~Starwars!~~ (A Wedding!)

Aside from the fact that it is very nearly our 8th wedding anniversary, I went on a witch hunt to find my dress because I was hoping that some of that lovely tartan fabric was hiding in there too.

You see, my Darling Husband has significant Scottish ancestry. He tells me that The Black Douglas is a long lost relative and I'm inclined to believe him.

(See! They even wore the same clothes ;) )

Anyway. I opened the giant suitcase full of my wedding dress and remembered that I still hadn't had it cleaned. Far from being the perfect bride, I'd just taken it off and packed it away.

So when I opened the suitcase all those memories flooded back.

So naturally, I stuffed it into my washing machine, threw in a little nappysan and hoped for the best.

(It survived!)

Now I'm just waiting for it to dry completely, so I can try it on again. I do it each year on our anniversary. This year it will be a week early because I couldn't be bothered getting it down again after I put it away!

Faryngitis addendum (is that the word?)

I have never in my entire long legged life experienced a week quite like this one just passed.

It all started a week ago, Thursday. I took Aphid #1 to the doctor because he was quite hoarse and complaining of a sore throat. The verdict was faryngitis, (I apologise if I have spelt that wrong. I can't be stuffed looking up the dictionary) and the course of action, nothing.

The next morning (well somewhere between getting up at midnight and 4am to feed the Bug) I discovered he had moved his sleeping position of choice from his top bunk bed to the lounge. I was miffed because that is usually where *I* finish my nighttime agenda with the Bug snuggled in close. Miffed... Until he told me he'd been sick in his bed. Then I blessed his little cotton socks that he'd been big and brave enough to deal with it all himself and not bother mummy! There was a new set of clothes on and blankets found and all sorts. In fact, he was more proactive in his time of need then in his everyday life!

He spent the next day (Friday) randomly returning foods to me. What a love. But not a word of complaint. He delt with his shift in normal bodily functions amazingly and I was terribly proud.

But it was just the Faryngitis. He couldn't swallow, so nothing went down.

Yep. That's exactly what it was.

Tuesday, late afternoon. The Bug and I came home from Woolies and I plopped her on the lounge while I went to the loo. I came back and *blerrrrk*. Twice. She too grinned and delt with it like a common occurence.

Odd. She had no signs of Faryngitis.

Friday, family day. We just jumped in the car to come home from the shops. Aphid #2 starts groaning and *blerrrrk*. Huh? This is getting odd. He purged every half hour for a good few hours. He too soldiered on. No sadness, tears, fears, nothing. He'd fill his bucket, pass it to me, I'd clean it and return it to him for the next go...

That night, the *Faryngitis* struck me too. Mild. Thank goodness.

Perhaps though, my diagnosis may be off??!

My first sad school mummy moment

I don't think bullying is the right word, but this morning I had my very first taste of *you WILL be nice to my child or I will rip your ferral little rats tail from the base of your hairline and will force feed it to you through a drip!*

For once, we got to school before the bell. There were boys running around playing tag and naturally Aphid #1 jumped in to play. He was met with the response to *Go away!*

I was furious! Certainly, he may give me the irrits. I may even sometimes tell him to leave me alone. And not that I have any affinity for anyone who considers mullets and rats tails to be the epitome of style. BUT HOW DARE THEY think themselves on a level where they can tell my particularly handsome son to just GO AWAY.

Furious.

Sad.

I gave him and extra big hug. Told him I loved him more then pizza and sent him on his way.

Incidently, he was oblivious to it all.

Words of Wisdom

I'd really like to thank everyone who commented about last weeks dilemma. I must say things have definitely improved since then - more then likely because I am in a better frame of mind. I don't feel so isolated in my frustration and ~~anger~~ irritation anymore. Plus, just the effort to get it off my chest helped immensley.

So I have:

Written a list of things they need to accomplish both before and after school. I thought this was a great idea, and since there is a whopping great big white board (a story completely its own) in their room, I decided to make use of it. So clever! (or not, since it IS a white board... the ones that boys ~~purposefully~~ accidentally wipe clean after mummy spending yonks perfecting the stick figures to go with the words. (It IS a boy in the shower - not a THING in a BOAT getting RAINED ON. harumf! *stamps foot*)
Started breathing deeply. And trying to calm down before speaking to the boys. Incidentally, they don't seem to understand sarcasm... Odd.
~~Started drinking.~~
~~Increased my daily chocolate dosage.~~
Realised that their behaviour is less a reflection of my parenting skills and more their age.
~~Not been able to find an orphanage.~~
Increased the amount of hugs and loves and smooches and stories and snuggles and fun. I like this one the best.

I hope this love-in lasts forever!

I am really stuck in a hard place right now. Just for something different, it's the kids that are causing my mind quite a bit of grief.

If you were my neighbours, you'd think I was psychotic. I seem to always be yelling at the kids - it doesn't matter what time of day it is, you're sure to hear the frustrating and anger emitting from my vocal chords. Not to mention the steam rising out my ears.

I only wish I were trying to be funny, but in this case it is literal.

You see I am stuck trying to figure out if my expectations are too much... a little outdated... I don't know. There has to be some reason that the Aphids blatently ignore me over and again until I get to the point where I am about to have a stroke! Am I asking incorrectly? Should I even expect them to get dressed when asked? Is it wrong that I want my furniture left where I placed it? And heaven forbid I should try for them to eat what food is served up!

I ~~always~~ certainly try to make a point of asking them to do things clearly and in a nice manner. Generally I am ignored and more playing is done. I'm not talking *stop playing and clean this house!*, rather, *please brush your teeth! go and get your school uniform on! put your lunchbox on the bench! take your shoes and socks off!* Is that really too much expectation placed on a 5 year old? or *please go to the toilet before you have an accident! lets get some nice clothes on! etc* for my 3 year old..

It is wearing me out and making me very stressed and angry. Not the sort of mummy anyone wants around. It's no wonder they cling to daddy for dear life.

I guess I really need to learn the art of relaxing and not taking their disobedience personally. No easy feat if you ask me. Alas, this is my only option though because it seems they have the upper hand in all this.

So what do *you* do when your little ones push all your buttons and test your limits?? Because I need some new strategies...

A little while ago, we had a Tea Party to take some promotion photos for our ladies ministry at church. It was a wonderful afternoon of celebrating sisterhood and the friendships that have evolved between young and old. (Shelley, your lack of presence was lamented by all).

To my most pleasant surprise, I was gifted a few of these shots on Sunday as I arrived for the morning service.

Don't they look FANTASTIC!!? I wish I had the pleasure of owning all of them!

A special shout out to 2 Little Bunnies for the photography. Highly recommended folks! In fact, I am hoping to use this talented lady for some of our own family shots in the future.

I must confess that I absolutely adore being involved in The Handmade Expo. Aside from having a day to sit childless (for the most part) with my besties chattering away, we get to see all the amazing creativity of others earlier then everyone else! See, while The Expo is open from 8 - 2 (THIS SATURDAY), WE get to arrive a little earlier to set up. And since we are just so efficient, we then spend the remaining time wandering around perusing what everyone else does.

I love it!

Anywho, make sure you are at the Bundamba Racecourse this Saturday. You wont want to miss it!

Holidays and the new 'do!

Last week the husband and I managed to escape for a few days sans the Aphids. We took the Bug and went to Worldmark Golden Beach on the sunny, Sunshine Coast. It's very close to Caloundra for those not in the know. Absolutely beautiful!

(we took the Bug because I am still feeding her... I can't wait till Hobart next year when we can go completely child free!)

As a disclaimer, I'd like to say that apparently the husband ~~sucks~~, ~~isn't as talented as your average~~, could do with some practise with taking photos of moi. Sorry 'bout that.

So in those pics you can sort of see my new hair cut. Much shorter again! I really like it, although for practicality methinks I will let it grow out a smidge longer. Also, you can't actually tell that I am not in focus - so all my declarations of untalented husbands look like me being overly pernickity. Humf!

So this morning after the school dropoff and general mania that is my household, we drove to The Optical Superstore.

They replaced the second set of frames for free.

They found and replaced the broken wing on the other pair (almost identical I might add) for free.

They fitted and adjusted both sets of frames for free.

They were busy and served other customers in a polite and fair manner at the same time.

They went out of their way to find a better solution forour specticle-killing childrens needs.

Dear Mrs Scurr,

Thank you for your message.

LensPro is now the only Group to have an in-store optical lab which enables us to provide a one-hour service for most single-vision glasses, and one-hour lens fitting for most custom ground lenses.

You should not be surprised that LensPro (or any optical practice) does not hold a wide selection of frames suitable for a toddler, as this is a fairly specialised requirement. For the same reason, optical practices would generally not stock parts for toddlers frames either. What often happens, is for new toddler frames to be ordered in for individual customers.

Having spoken with the person who served you, I believe that a genuine effort was made to assist you, notwithstanding that the store was fairly busy this evening.

I am sincerely sorry that LensPro has been unable to meet your expectation of service on this occasion.

I’d like to thank the lady attending the counter on Thursday evening April 15th, 2010. I came in to the store with hope but very little expectation for a remedy for the two pairs of glasses my not quite 3 year old had broken the wings off. I had to try something as he needs his glasses to see and prevent his significantly turned eye from getting worse. We discussed several options – repairs, new frames, replacement parts.

What I would love to bring to your attention was the profoundly horrific customer service I received. I was quickly told that the repairs were not possible – one pair needed to be sent away to be soldered and the other had snapped completely.

I was then told we could purchase a new pair. Though not enamoured with this idea, we had a look and discovered that there were no frames that would fit his face. They were either too small or too big. We looked through the drawers and at the new stock that had just arrived with nothing suitable found.

I asked about putting a replacement wing to tide us over – since a friend had used this method to get her young son out of a similar situation. This is when things went sour. The box containing the broken frames was presently dumped on the desk and I was told to get looking. (Yes, just like that. *Thud* “You better get looking then”. Oh and there were some not-well-hidden sighs and eye rolls). Fine. I could deal with that. But when the retail assistant then snidely muttered to another customer that I could ‘just buy a new set of frames and be done with it’ and mumbled that you are ‘not a second hand store’, I about burst in tears. Did it not seem apparent that I was distressed, embarrassed and humiliated enough? Was it necessary to bring these fine qualities to the attention of fellow customers??? Especially since we had already established that while you can indeed make glasses up on the spot, YOU HAD NO FRAMES WE COULD USE!

So yes, my very little expectation of a successful remedy to the situation was met. And now you will not receive any more of our business. Check your records – we’ve spent quite a good deal of cash at your store and have only ever received exceptional service. It’s a pity what one event can do to your reputation.

And yes, we will be telling this to everyone we meet. Excellent effort customer service lady.

Oh and those tears I previously mentioned – they flowed freely for the entire journey home, prompted my 5 year old to ask why I was so sad, and was about the only thing that prevented my husband from ringing you up and being not very nice on the phone. Be thankful that it is me writing this note of appreciation and not my husband – he would not be so kind.

What a relief!

Aphid # 1 is in Prep this year.

Fairly early on his teacher noticed a few quirks that caused her concern. She thought it would be a good idea for a visit to a Paediatrician.

Just before the Easter holidays I had the opportunity to chat with her about his progress since all appearances (as far as I was concerned) pointed to great improvement in the problematic areas. I was feeling all haughty like!

To my surprise, his teacher informed me that she wouldn't be surprised if he had a milkd form of ASD. That is, Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

My jaw dropped.

I didn't know what to say.

What did that even mean?? How could she say that! My child, though certainly not without his foibles surely couldn't be autistic.

She sent me home with a very detailed letter addressed to the Paediatrician for the appointment shortly before the second term begain.

Monday was the appointment.

Coom! Boom! Boom! - that was my heart. pounding. so. hard.

~ A few bits from the Dr ~

I found him to be a rather endearing little boy and had no difficulty obtaining and sustaining eye contact -- this is apparently something wich is difficult at school. There were no dysmorphic features evident. His vision was recently assessed. There has been nothing to suggest a hearing disorder. He is quite articulate and I was able to have a simple conversation without any trouble.

~ Also ~

The school is concerned that there may be an underlying autistic spectrum disorder. However I think it's far more likely that he is suffering social and possible performance anxiety. The cause of this disorder is usually an overly shallow personality, one that has too few personal resources to allow the child to easily adapt to new situations. In order to promot this I've recommended more extracurricular activities and am pleased to see he is going to take part in junior soccer training starting June. I've also emphasised the need to try and develop his creative side. ... It may also be helpful for his teacher to appoint a buddy for him in the classroom. Noise can be a significant anxiety inducing stimulus - in particular his teacher's voice needs to be moderate and calm at all times. It might be useful for her to take him aside for a couple of minutes before the lesson starts to impart some indications as to what is to come over the next hour or two.

So there will be no label or stigma following him through life. We can adjust a few things to help him overcome these few problems.

Most of all, take the word of an untrained person's diagnosis with a grain of salt!

My point is, there is more to this season then candy. Whether you are religious or not, an empty tradition of gluttony just doesn't seem to cut it anymore.

I don't have a problem with eggs. They represent new life. As do the bunnies, and duckies, and - I'm not sure about all that Stig stuff out there!!!

But the most important part of Easter and new life is

If you have the chance, get out to a local church and make this holiday a little more substantial. It will be a lovely tradition to start for you and your loved ones.

Since Aphid #1 started Prep at the beginning of the year, I've kinda gone incognito with the fellow parents and schoolies as to my profession (you know, what I spend my time doing - not including kid wrangling). So it was a pleasant surprise to open the note pocket outside his classroom door, to be greeted with the Inaugural(??) Fundraising Market Day! They needed stall holders to help raise funds for a new piano!

I practically skipped home and rang the number almost before I'd unlocked the door.

*I'd like to have a stall please on the Handmade side* .....

What a day!

Yesterday we took a family trip up to my husbands family a few hours away. The drive there was nothing spectacular (the drive home was certainly not fun though with 3 kids crying tag team style) but the day was pretty exciting!

It all started about a week ago when my mother-in-law telephonied me (yes, I really do use that word in regular conversation) mentioning that she had conversationed (another odd word from my vocabulary) her neighbour. Said neighbour works in a Baby Store in their town and was quite interested in seeing some of my creations.

So off we choofed with a box of samples in tow.

Long story short, there is a very high chance that my Fluffy Butts will be retailed at this shop in the near future!

I haven't downloaded my camera for a while, so there is a few pictures of old to update you all with. First things first.

The Bug fell asleep while playing.

And then I won the Mother of the Year Award for letting the boys play with some pretend snow with their trains.

And then Aphid #1 tried on his Prep uniform! Goodness he is getting so big.

And finally, the recessed cupboard that the husband built today because now my hair is short I need to see the back of it. Does that qualify as a good sentence? I think not. Anywho, I like to see the back of my hair when I am doing it, and now that it's short, it is more crutial then ever. So we discussed using the mirror he did up when he made my birthday present sewing table. It has been in hiding since July as we had no where suitable to put such a pretty thing.

Now it looks like this!

Me and the Bug just toddled up to school to purchase the uniforms for Aphid #1. I can't believe he starts Prep next week - when did that happen?!

I've yet to convince him to try anything on, but rest assured that when I do I'll have my trusty camera to proove the event took place.

Sewing Day!

Today is our ~~semi annual~~, ~~monthly~~, quite regular sewing day! I love the bedlam that it represents. Getting together with all my besties, letting the children go crazy, lots of munching, chatting, sewing and general merriment.

I love it!

Incidentally, I've concluded that the collective term for a gathering of women should be:

An update on the stolen Couch to 5 km exercise ... thing.

I have been faithfully going to the gym ~~three times~~ twice a week to jog on the tread mill. Last week I was able to do (fairly easily - although I was a stuffed goose at the end):

Brisk 5 minute warmup walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging with 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

This week I am to do:

Brisk 5 minute warmup walk. Then alternate 90 seconds of jogging with 2 minutes of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

But in actuality, yesterday I did:

Brisk 2 minute warmup walk, followed by 2 minutes of jogging and 1 minute of walking for a total of 20 minutes.

I am so excited!! Now all I need is to see some belly flub shifting and I'll be really stoked! I am going to try for that again today or tomorrow.

(I do realise that in reality this is a pretty ordinary effort... )

The day dawned sunny...

Hang on, no it didn't! It was beautifully overcast - not too hot, just perfect. We ended up waking the kids at 6.30 so that we could open the presents before church at 8. That didn't happen, so we went to church and took all the presents to the big family 'smas celebrations.

What am I proud of for 2009?

2009 has been quite a year for us Scurr folk. It started with me being pregnant with the Mealie Bug - I was just over half way when the new year dawned. Exciting times...? Not!

For those of you who don't know me, I actually suffer from clinical depression when I am pregnant. It happened all three times. A chemical reaction to my hormones, the doctors all told me. All I knew was that it was hell. For this pregnancy I was extremely ill - I was on a concoction of two different antidepressants AND a mood stabiliser. This combination had me putting on around a kilogram each week. I was bigger then I have ever been in my life and put on over twice the weight I had with the boys.

And what's more, it wasn't working.

We somehow survived until her birth. Counting down the weeks, days and hours until her scheduled caesar at 38 weeks. I received special permission to have her early AND to have my tubes tied. I know that my family, marriage and most importantly ME wouldn't survive another pregnancy.

So what am I proud of?

I am proud to say that once again I have made a full recovery! Once the hormones were out of my system I was back to normal. AND I have lost most of the weight I gained to be about 3 kilos heavier then my pre-pregnancy weight (for all three kidlets).

I still have a hard time with my jiggly belly that I never had after the boys, but I am learning to love (??) my new shape and not expect to be the same size I was in my teens.

So what are YOU proud of?

I have discovered that Aphid #1 and Aphid #2 seem to be getting bigger. I am entirely unsure when this actually happens since I haven't noticed a difference from one day to the next, however their clothes seem to be getting smaller.

Perhaps it is my lack of talent at washing since my clothes seem to be getting smaller too...?

Anywho, I purchased a few new things for them for their stockings, and last night I had the opportunity to ignore my mummy duties and lock myself away. Here is what I came up with...

A monster shirt for each Aphid.

A rocket and robot singlet for each Aphid.

And a birdie singlet for the Mealie Bug!

Yesterday was family Christmas day number one. It was such a lovely and relaxed day. We ate alfresco, nibbled entirely too much naughty foods and sent the menfolk to work while us ladies enjoyed our leisure.

This was the product of their handywork, as modelled by Aphid # 1 early this morning before breakfast. Notice him getting around in his singlet and undies only. This is the most prominent view in our house in summer. Rivalled only by the undies only. It makes laundry a breeze!

The background also shows the little tree house (sans the tree) that the husband built for them too.

This was was me and my lovely (not so) little niece contributed to the celebrations. I wanted to take more photos, but the batteries rudely died on the DSLR after taking this snap. It's distroyed now.

And last, but not least, my latest project ticked off the list. I even hand embroidered the names. Please don't look to closely at them though, because I'm rubbish at it!

Now I only have the tree skirt to make. Yeh, I've left it a little late!

I refuse to take photos

Right now I'm revolted.

Utterly aghast.

A few weeks ago I had a dear friend over and we both heard something chomping, gnawing if you will, in the kitchen. I checked, and it wasn't Maxi-cat. It WAS however, an illusive litte rodent. I choose to think of it as a tailed Guinea Pig. I like guineas. Had many as pets and hand raised them from teeny little fellas. So cute! (Especially the ones with a cow lick!)

Anywho, I disgussed the problem with the husband of the family who promptly went to Bunnings to purchase a plethora of poisons and traps and who knows what else. He laid them with care, washed his hands multiple times and we breathed a sign of relief.

It's now dead.

D E A D

Do you know how I know?

The smell. Somewhere in the kitchen, taking over the whole house.

We looked last night. Pulled the oven, the dishwasher, and all the pots and pans out. It HAD to be in that area. After hours of searching we gave up and had dinner.

This morning I was rudely awake at the butt-crack of dawn thanks to the critters, so I put the time to good use. It took several more hours but it is now found. NOT in the side we thought it was.

So now the poor husband has to clean up the giant mess made by cutting holes in cupboards. I fear another expensive trip to Bunnings will be made, but I don't care because the smell is G O N E ! Praise the Lord!

Oh, and this tailed Guinea Pig wasn't so cute. It was of the R variety. ICK!

They grow up so fast...

I thought I might do a bit of an update on the family.

Last week Aphid #1 graduated from kindy. He received his Diploma and a Degree in *The Quiet Achiever*. I am terribly proud!

The Bug decided to be terribly cute. It is rare... (not!)

We did some tree decorating.

and an aweful lot of baby attacking.

Finally. A visit to that Jolly Old Fella...

We've had quite a busy past couple of weeks, but hopefully things will calm down significantly now. Yeh right! It's Christmas!!!!

The Handmade Expo - done and dusted for the year!

It was hot! But not too hot, thank goodness. The biggest drama of the day was the flies. My oh my they were out in hoards. And the way they were clinging to our stall... well I think we have an attractive aroma to those little things!

Aside from that, there were plenty of people, plenty of aroma's (not only the fly attracting sort), plenty of heat, plenty of fun and frivolity, plenty of snow cones... just plenty good times really!

Now for the evidence!

Once again ladies, a wonderfully organised and executed market. And to even organise entertainment for after the event... We are truly not worthy!

Santa Baby!

We took the kidlets to the Myer Centre in Brisvegas yesterday to see that Jolly old fella. Twas a lovely afternoon - we nearly missed the train in both directions (or rather, we arrived on the platform with seconds to spare) but the critters adored it!

Once there, the boys delighted in a train ride around the Santa track. It was Aphid #2's first go since he has been too little in previous years. He seemed to LOVE it. But then, how could you not when you are among a train mad family??

Then for the photo with the Claus himself. Turns out that the very same aforementioned Aphid #2 is scared stiff of him. No one else. In fact he tends to thrust himself on random strangers for hugs (*Need a hug!*) but he was just not coming to the party.

So, it ended up that we all were in the photo.

Been busy!

While all you lucky folks were Blogetting, I was busy busy busy making some new delightful goodies for the next Handmade Expo!

Ok, so that isn't quite the full truth. I actually had a retirement party to go to that was conveniently at the same time, but prior to that I was sewing. I pulled out some of the gorgeous fabrics I seem to collect (or do they breed? who knows!) to make some special stuff for those of the masculine gender. I think they look pretty fab!

The shorts range in size from 6 months to size 5. (Both the 6 months and size 1 have the same lime green trim. The size 5 is the stripe. You can work out which size is which now!)

I also made a couple of Christmas skirts with these gorgeous Alexandra Henry retro green prints. The candy cane fabric was a cute find too! They are in size 1 and size 2.

Then late this afternoon I visited Handmade Heaven and Di-Licious (Oh my!) to restock some of my goodies. Once again I forgot to take pics, but they are the cutest little board shorts in a lime green moose print. They range in size from 6 months to 4. Go visit them and adopt a pair for the young man in your life!

Actually, you can see them in the photo below. They are on the left just before the red sailor shorts. They have a denim pocket on the back to pop all those useful slingshots and whatever else boys carry around!

I am planning on updating my Etsy store shortly. I have been reticent to do it in case everything sells before the markets, but since that is more then likely just wishful thinking, methinks it's time.

Welcome to Scurrette's Stall!

We had an AWESOME day and I'd like to give a BIG thanks to the following: The Devine Mrs R of Sweat Pea Delight, Swift Jan of For Fun and Fancy, the ever helpful (and great company keeper!) Pastor's Wife, and of course Everyone who came and supported me by visiting and spending all their hard earned cash our gorgeous items.

We done good!! (and we'll be back for sure!)

Finally, I want to give a round of applaus to Handmade Heaven, Bubba Chenille and Handmadies for organising such a great venue and event each and every month! The only complaints were the flies and heat. Next time ladies, try a little harder alright? (Oh and my location was PERFECT! I had great neighbours, a bit of a breeze, close to the ammenities and food (not located together... cause that would be odd!) and, um, I can't think of anything else!

As I'm sure you're all aware, THIS SATURDAY (Nov 21st) is the Handmade Expo at the Ipswich Race Course, Bundamba. It is also Scurrette ~ Stylish Little Critters market debut! Joining me will be Swift Jan of For Fun And Fancy fame! Woot woot!

There will be plenty to see and do there - lots of Christmas presents for all and sundry, yummy foods, decorations... everything imaginable. I even got a wine tasting in last month... as well as cupcakes, icecream, fudge, coffee... Oh and there was a troubadour seranading us all!

I have been spending an aweful lot of my time moonlighting in the sewing room. You see I'm getting ready for the markets in a fortnight. I can even report semi well behaved kidlets! Hooray! So far I have about 1 rack full of goodness. I'm hoping for 4... ambitious? I made 6 things today, so I don't think it will be too hard to fill them up.

I'm not going to take any pictures of my creations just yet, but sneaky peaky's will come in a few days when I'm a smidge more organised.

Apologies for vanishing for a few days. I generally am a narcissistic talker, but the past few days have gone as a bit of a blur.

The other day I came home to an email from a lady wanting to sell my Fluffy Butts in a boutique in London! How exciting is that!! She found me on Made It, and I've only been listed on there since Saturday afternoon.

Understandibly, I have been fairly chained to the sewing machine trying to get up a supply of goodies for her, as well as a few other places I'm looking into selling them, not to mention the upcoming Handmade Expo in November!

I spent a LOVELY morning, just me and the Mealie Bug at the Handmade Markets. It was just heavenly being out and all girly like and not having to worry about anyone else but moi and the littlest critter from our brood. Of course I spent a smidge, but hey, it's helping our economy AND helping out other like minded ladies who are also into this crafty-ness business.

OH! And after making a few introductions to some selected peoples, and pointing out some enigma's to others, I ran into Swift Jan of ForFunAndFancy fame and received my delightful brooch that I ordered from her! Perfection!

Then reality hit and I came home to the shambles that is my house when it is run by the husband with 2 Aphids of varying ages. Still, I love them just the same ;) But do you know what I did?

Firstly, I want to refresh everyones memory that this Saturday (Oct 17th 8am - 2pm) is the Handmade Expo at the Ipswich Turf Club! It is such a great place to see all the gorgeousness that is handmade stuff and spend all your hard earned cash on well priced, well made, unique and non-commercialised stuff! I'm planning on doing a wee bit more Christmas shopping and I recommend that you do to!

It's a $2 entry for adults and kidlets are free. And make sure you bring the kidlets, because there is going to be a Guiness World Record attempt and over 1500 people are needed for Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. I'm sure you remember it!

AND.. there is a giveaway to celebrate some more handmade milestones. Go visit: Handmadies to find out all the excitement!

In other news...

Yesterday was a baaaad day. I wont go into details, suffice to say that Aphid #1 has no toys for a very long time. I was reeling (? is that the correct word / spelling?) and so I locked myself in my new abode after bed time last night.

This afternoon I have spent a little while making up a pair of boys shorts. Aphid #2 in all his pernickity-ness has given them his nod of approval, so hopefully that is a good sign!

Oh, and I just found out today the reason my machine needle seemed to be *gah-dunking* every time it hits the fabric. Apparently they are only good for about 6 hours of sewing. Oups! It must have been very, very blunt! I only change it when I break it on a pin... How did I not know that? And how embarrassed should I be at admitting it???!

Now the *best friend* is sewing like new again!
